Its official! Its called Cloverfield!

Further to a post I made a few months back, Codename:Cloverfield ,about a film I was looking forward to, I finally have more info! Its still pretty mysterious, but the title has now been confirmed as Cloverfield, and it due to be released in the UK on the 1st Feb 2008 (still 01.18.08 in the US, which was one of its working titles). A second trailer was released with Beowulf, and I tracked down a dodgy copy of it on YouTube, just because I am so exited abotu the film! Wasn’t the best quality, and it still doesn’t give much away, but it certainly whets the appetite. The trailer opens with the statement:

Multiple sightings of case designate “Cloverfield”
Camera retrived at incident site U.S. 447
Area formerly known as “Central Park”

Sounds pretty much like a Blair Witch style movie to me, filmed on a camcorder from the point of view of survivors of some kind of monster attack. Sounds good to me. I just hope that this film doesn’t make me travel sick watching it, like Blair Witch did in the cinema. Maybe I should take some anti sickness pills before I see it. And I will see this one in the cinema, thats for sure.

It better not be a disapointment after all this!!!

One reason I am looking forward to christmas!

I am not the world biggest fan of the Xmas period, but there is one thing this year that might ease the torment for me…

Alien Vs Predator: Requiem

Don’t get me wrong, I liked the first AvP movie, though it certainly wasn’t a masterpiece, but I have to say this one looks pretty kick ass. Great trailer, I just hope they haven’t shown the best bits in there! A kid gets facehugged… Thats a new one.

I have been a fan of anything Alien or Predator since my mid teens, when I would buy up all the comics I could find involving either creature, but it was always preferable when facing each other. I read such classics as Superman vs Aliens, Batman vs Predator, and much more. Sadly my the event of my ex meant alot of the comics I had went ‘missing’. *cries* On the subject of Batman vs Predator I will link you this very interesting fan movie: Batman: Dead End. To say it was made by fans with no where near the budget a big movie company would have had, I think its down right amazing.

So who will I be rooting for in the new movie?  Not the humans that for sure.  I played both AvP games when they came out on the PC, and the AVP game on the PS2, and I never enjoyed playing the marines.  The Aliens way of moving and the sheer kickass-ness of the Predator weapons made for a much more fun game.  But we all know, in the end of the movie, the humans will win.  *sigh*

 Another thing of interest (to me anyway) to note is that AvP-R is using the Aliens version of the Alien.  Unlike the above specimen the head oven the Aliens version isn’t smooth.  Aliens always has been my favourite film out of the whole lot, so lets hope its a good omen.

 

Codename: Cloverfield

Today has seen an intriguing mystery being laid on my desktop… I found a link to a movie trailer, simply called 01-18-08. I am assuming that this is the release date for the film, and after watching the trailer , which to be frank gives you a tatse of what the movie is about yet leaves you really non the wiser, I decided to try and find out a little more about it.

Except there isn’t much more to find out. The trailer was first shown when Transformer came out in the US on the 2nd July. The film is by JJ Abrams, who has produced episodes of Lost and Alias, as well as movies such as Joy Ride (Road Kill in the UK) and Forever Young. On IMDb he is also listed as working on a new Star Trek movie. Hmmmm…..

Anyway, back to the mysterious movie at hand. So far Abrams has confirmed its a monster moive, and well, thats about it. Production titles so far include “Cloverfield” (hence the title) and “Slusho” (after the drink brand in Alias) There is a website, 1-18-08.com , but all it contains are ‘photos’ of the party shown in the trailer, which can be flipped to reveal messages written on the back which may provide clues to the films main characters, who also have Myspaces. There is also a 1 -18 -08 Pedia, which gathers together all known info on the film so far. All in all, there seems to be many sites and communities all wanting to know more about the film. Talk about hype Well, it has me hooked, I am just hoping that it lives up to it all!

So what would I like? Why, Cthulhu of course! As far as I can tell, no one has ever made a movie about HP Lovecrafts Cthulhu, and I would love to see one. But I am fairly sure it wont be, but a girl can hope. But any monster movie is ok with me

Another thing I have seen looking around is a few people complaining that the shot of the Statue of Liberty’s head being thrown at a sky scraper is in bad taste after 9/11. I am sorry, but I do not agree with this at all. So now whenever a movie is made we have to stop and think “Oh, Hey, something bad happened on this location on *insert date*, We better not do this”. Horrible things happen, but if we let them change our way of life and affect the things we do after the event then we have let the terrorists win. Its a film, its fiction, its nothing more than that.

Oh, but whilst I remember, there is another movie released soon that I am looking forward to, and I do know more about…

30 Days of Night

A vampire movie!! I read the graphic novel its based on a few years ago and loved it, so here is hoping that the film is as good. Vampires take over a town in Alaska where the sun wont rise for 30 days. Sounds like its gonna be a fun filled bloodbath!
